Policy Paper The Collective Right of Indigenous Women

This policy paper presents PEREMPUAN AMAN’s position that legal recognition of Indigenous Peoples remains incomplete when Indigenous communities are treated as a single, homogeneous entity and the distinct experiences of Indigenous Women are ignored. It defines the collective rights of Indigenous Women through three interconnected elements: their management areas, traditional knowledge, and authority in decision-making. The paper calls for these rights to be explicitly included in the Indigenous Peoples Law, including protection from criminalization, recognition of Indigenous Women’s knowledge and management areas, their free, prior, and informed consent, and state support for Indigenous Women’s organizations.
