This fact sheet challenges Indonesia’s claims of sustainable development by presenting evidence from 1,116 respondents across 31 Indigenous communities and 44 villages. It finds that around 90 percent of Indigenous Women considered free, prior, and informed consent inapplicable to them, 87.8 percent believed poverty persisted in their communities, and one-third had experienced being unable to obtain nutritious food. The report argues that the SDGs will remain an empty promise while development continues to dispossess Indigenous territories, criminalize Indigenous knowledge, weaken food sovereignty, and exclude Indigenous Women’s management areas, knowledge, and authority from decision-making.
